Brand
England· Founded in 1985
English maker founded in 1985 in Essex by Alan O'Rourke, whose father Brian was a trained cabinet-maker — which shows in a company that has treated the box as half the design ever since. The first product was the Sabre, a small two-way that won awards and made the name; the Talisman followed in 1990 and became the model Ruark was known for. The company then spent two decades on radios and music systems rather than passive speakers, trading as Ruark Audio, and the R range revives the two original names with the woodwork intact: a walnut slat trim across the foot of the baffle, and cabinet volumes and port tuning frequencies published in the specifications, which most makers keep to themselves.
The catalog ranges from the Sabre R at 29.0 cm up to the Talisman R at 85.0 cm — compare any two side by side at true scale.
