Estonian maker founded in 2010 in Tallinn by Alfred Vassilkov, an electroacoustics engineer with a quarter-century of speaker design behind him, together with his daughters Alissa — now the CEO — and Kristiina. Six months in, the first model won a CES Innovation Award. The idea he had been chasing since 2006 was a cabinet with no parallel walls and no flat panel anywhere, and the material that made it possible is a crushed-marble composite cast into an hourglass shape that is now the brand's signature. Drivers are almost always Accuton, several of them made to order; internal wiring is Kubala-Sosna throughout. The company operates as Alfred & Partners, and its speakers are hand-finished to a car-paint standard in a country of 1.3 million people.
