American maker founded in 1990 in Owings Mills, Maryland by Sandy Gross, Don Givogue and Ed Blaise — Gross had co-founded Polk Audio eighteen years earlier and would go on to found GoldenEar twenty years later, which makes him the common thread through three of the country's better-known speaker brands. The house idea has been the same since the start and is unusual enough to be a signature: bipolar towers, with a second set of drivers on the back firing at the wall, so a good deal of what you hear has bounced before it reaches you. The other is the powered woofer built into the cabinet — a tower that plugs into the mains and does the job of a subwoofer it doesn't need to stand next to. Sold through Directed Electronics in 2004, it spent two decades inside Sound United beside Polk, Denon and Marantz, and passed to Harman, Samsung's audio arm, in September 2025.
