Tannoy

England· Founded in 1926

Founded in London in 1926 by Guy Fountain, and named for the tantalum-lead alloy of his first rectifier. Its defining invention is the Dual Concentric driver of 1947: the tweeter fires through the throat of the bass cone, so a two-way behaves as a single point source and the drivers cannot smear in time against each other. Speaker production moved to Coatbridge, Scotland in 1976, and the Prestige, Legacy and Super Gold Monitor cabinets were built there until Music Tribe, which bought the company in 2015, wound the plant down.

The catalog ranges from the Autograph Mini at 35.6 cm up to the Westminster Royal at 139.5 cm — compare any two side by side at true scale.
