Czech electroacoustics has an institutional past. Under the state conglomerate Tesla, founded in 1946, the country designed and mass-produced drivers, radios and studio equipment for the whole Eastern bloc, and it built up an engineering base and a set of cabinet-making workshops that outlived the company's 1991 breakup. The modern Czech scene is small and largely artisanal, drawing on that same Bohemian woodworking tradition, and it has become a quietly attractive place for builders elsewhere in Europe to set up.
