Buchardt's cheapest speaker, and an unusually honest piece of cost engineering: it reuses the S400 MK2's cabinet and waveguide outright and changes only three things — woofer, crossover and binding posts. The woofer is a new custom paper cone on the same aluminium chassis but with a shorter stroke and a conventional motor, which the company says costs a little sensitivity and deep bass and gives back tighter transients and less fuss about placement. The crossover is still Jantzen, still with foil MOX resistors and baked air-core inductors where it matters, just not the Superior-tier parts of its big brother. Behind it sits a 5×8-inch long-stroke passive radiator, oversized for a 36-centimetre box, which is where the 37 Hz comes from. The 19 mm dome in the deep CDC waveguide is the family trait: controlled directivity, so the room matters less. €1,400 a pair with shipping and duties included, sold direct with no US price.
