Model Five

The speaker that brought the name back in 2021, and the template for everything KLH has made since. A 10-inch pulp-paper woofer, a 4-inch midrange and a 25 mm aluminium dome in a sealed cabinet of reinforced 19 mm MDF, crossed at 380 Hz and 2.85 kHz by a thirteen-component network of iron-core inductors and Mylar capacitors. The box is 66 cm tall and 35 cm wide — the woofer is nearly as wide as the cabinet, which is the whole KLH shape argument: a broad shallow baffle instead of a narrow deep one. Acoustic suspension means no port to tune and none to misbehave against a wall, and at 90.5 dB it is the efficient one of the range despite the sealed loading. The dimensions here are the cabinet on its own; the 5-degree powder-coated steel riser that comes with it makes 87 cm standing. Nordic Noir, West African Mahogany or English Walnut.
