Mingus Orchestra

The top of the Mingus series and, at 1.73 m and 130 kg a side, the largest speaker Marten makes outside the Coltrane line. Two diamond domes rather than one — 19 mm above 8 kHz and 51 mm from 3.8 kHz — sit with a 178 mm ceramic cone in a white plate at ear height, with two 203 mm aluminium-honeycomb woofers above them and two below, so the bass array is symmetrical about the midrange. Four 254 mm aluminium passive radiators on the back take the place of a port. Four ways, every crossover first-order, at 350 Hz, 3.8 kHz and 8 kHz, and a quoted 22 Hz to 100 kHz within ±2 dB. 89 dB from a 6-ohm nominal load that bottoms at 3.1 makes it easier to drive than the smaller Septet. Cabinet is 25 to 42 mm fibre laminate in piano black with solid-wood top and bottom, on a polished stainless base with Marten Isolators; bi-wire WBT Nextgen, Jorma wiring with Statement optional.
